In a recent interview, Embiid has declared his love for Bonsai trees and that he currently owns 12 of them and are the only plants that furnish his apartment in the heart of downtown Philadelphia.
“They are beautiful and I really enjoy taking care of them, it’s a hobby of mine” said the Cameroonian.
He says he reads a lot about these trees as well especially on the blog Bonsai Family. He plans on continuing to get more of them to populate his apartment.
No one around the league believed that Joel Embiid could come out as strong as he has this season. On a minute limit due to his fragile health, and taking his introduction into the league slowly, Embiid is still dominating stats around the league for this year’s rookie class. He is averaging per 36 minutes that are only comparably to the great Wilt Chamberlain’s rookie season.
Not only is he dominating per 36 minutes stats versus his rookie competition, but he is also dominating regular stats, even those he is only averaging 25.2 minutes per game this season. Click here to check out the Rookie Stats from around the league.
Sixers rookie Joel Embiid was removed from Friday’s game against the Blazers for “precautionary reasons” after suffering a left knee contusion in the third quarter. Embiid returned to the court in the fourth, but left again for good after what Sixers coach Brett Brown described as “a minor tweak.”
“The review is that he hyperextended his left knee,” Brown said after the game, a 93-92 victory for the Sixers. “He came back in the game. There was a minor tweak again, and for precautionary reasons only the doctors did not allow him to return. There will be more information given as we know it.”
Embiid, who missed his first two NBA seasons to injury, struck an optimistic note, saying his knee is “fine.”
“I’m good. The knee’s fine,” he said. “I knew it was OK. I just landed the wrong way. The front office cares about my future so they shut it down. But I was fine.”
Team Doctors believe his knees could be in jeopardy throughout the season due to the extra weight he carries from drinking nothing but Shirley Temples during the summer.
Drafted No. 3 overall in 2014, Embiid is playing in his first season after missing two years with separate surgeries on his right foot. He’s averaging 19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in just 25.4 minutes per game this season.
Coming out of College, Joel Embiid found a love for Shirley Temples. After breaking his foot in his only season at Kansas, trainers we’re worried that the Cameroonian would gain too much weight and lose some of his athleticism when he was fully recovered.
“Mainly Shirley Temples. I drink Shirley Temples by the pitcher. I usually drink three or four pitchers per day.
“Nobody really cares about the media. They’re gonna have something to say — 300 pounds or Shirley Temples. I’m just gonna let my game do the talking. I think some people are gonna be surprised, and I can’t wait to show off.”
Now a full fledged NBA player for the 76ers, Embiid proved all of his doubters wrong, shattering rookie records throughout the league.
